Calgary Expo: Day 2...HOLY CRAP!

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 28, 2012, 7:49 PM
Today was insane! The expo had thought they were going to reach 50,000 total. They reached 50,000 people by 1:00pm! The Fire Marshall actually had to close down admissions for a little while because it got over capacity. It was INSANE!!! if you think about it, the expo was 30,000 people last year, and hit over twice that  by  halfway through day 2. I feel sorry for the volunteers, I really do. How they hell were they supposed to know it would get this insane. My husband was one of those volunteers, and he was exhausted. Several of my friends were volunteers and they were exhausted. Nothing they could do, but they were getting yelled at.

When doors opened, it was funny to literally watch people RUN down the hall toward the autograph section!

It was a good day for me, although I had a few boring times at the table. That's the problem with having a niche market when 75% of the people there are guys, and that's exactly who DOESN'T buy your stuff.

Still, I have the best booth ever. The best comments get made with regarding my art!

Anyway, I'm exhausted. I'm looking forward to tomorrow both because this is a blast, AND because, it's the last day!

WHEW!

ikr? my friends and I got in like a half an hour before they stopped letting people in at 11:03, on sunday. we were worried that we would be turned away at the door at first when we saw how many people were lined up to get in. i think the main thing was that they had too many big names there. i heard that there were even some people that had come from out of province and country to see them, but then ended up getting turned away. very very crazy weekend O.O i was feeling a little sorry for the volunteers too. one looked like she was gettin a little close to tears over the stress.

Well, some people were removed from the premisis temporarily, but no one was turned away. Some people got tired and left after a few hours though. Admissions on Saturday were closed down for 1 hour only, then it started to come in again. Sunday, yeah, they had to stop letting people in who hadn't bought tickets in advance. But honestly, if you're travelling with the intent on buying at the door, you're taking a huge risk to start with.
A little extra patience (though I'm sure it was annoying), would have seen everyone in on Saturday.
I feel bad for everyone involved but some people are blowing it way out of proportion.

yeah there are, unfortunately, a lot of people like that :( i'm sorry to say my friend was one of the impatient ones, but funnily enough, right after being that way she began to say things like "i don't know people are getting so mad, they can't really help that its so busy." and im standing there thinking "didn't you just say...?" lol! oh well, despite the rough start, the day was pretty successful ^_^ i got to meet adam west, stan lee, and john noble. then i got to see your booth as well as ~alexiuss's ^_^ woot woot!

Oh man, it was insane! I'm glad I get there early and don't smoke. And so happy I got to you in time to nab Fei Long! Thanks for putting up with the 75% in order to share your awesomeness with the rest of us :D

(I felt so bad for the volunteers too. They had it rough with all the angry hordes. They certainly couldn't have known it would get so crazy, but the expo should have, considering the TGN cast, and they should have equipped the volunteers far better than they did.)

75% of the attendees are guys, but 90% of the people who BUY THINGS are girls!

Wow. That sounds like what happens at the San Diego Comic Con almost every year. O_O
